Compliant Lift Truck Training

RTITB have issued a guide to Compliant Lift Truck Training (click on the link below to view this PDF file).

Compliant Lift Truck Training

This details the 3 stages of training as follows:

Basic Operator Training – must take place ‘off the job’ and covers the practical skills and knowledge to operate safely.

Specific Job Training – must also take place ‘off the job’ at the employer’s premises.  This is where the operator learns about the make and model of the truck they will be using, work conditions, the racking system and site rules.

Familiarisation Training – this introduces the operator to the ‘live work’ environment for the first time and takes place ‘on the job’ under close supervision.

Once the above 3 stages have been completed and documented, the operator should be issued with an ‘Authorisation to Operate’.  All authorisations should be logged and recorded and include the following:

  • Operator’s name
  • Date authorisation granted and expiry date
  • Types/categories of equipment operator is authorised to use
  • Any special limitations or conditions
  • The areas of the company which they are authorised to operate.
