The National Forklift Safety day was established 6 years ago by the Industrial Truck Association in the USA. It is now being championed by BITA (British Industrial Truck Association) and the HSE in the UK and will be held on 11th June this year. It is part of a global promotion to raise awareness of the safe use of forklifts and the importance of proper operator training.
In conjunction with the HSE, the key message for this event is that seat belts save lives and that management is responsible for ensuring operator restraints are always used where fitted. Although seatbelts are the most obvious restraint, other physical barrier devices, including door bars or cabins are also relevant.
